Picnic at Jefferson Park
July 2nd, 2026. Starting off the summer academy field trips, STEMsub staff and students met once again at Jefferson Park for a fun day of activities. This event marked the beginning of the program and featured a variety of fun games, including icebreakers, team-building, and a lively round of ultimate rock-paper-scissors. With delicious food from Jimmy Johns and networking opportunities, the picnic offered a relaxed environment for students to meet their classmates and get to know their instructors.

After having lunch in the Seattle Amory, they all headed over to the Gates Foundation Discovery Center for an afternoon workshop on Design Thinking: Where do great ideas come from? And how can we make sure inventions and innovations, work in the real world and take everyone’s needs into account?
