Eligibility Requirements

Participant Eligibility

  • UW STEMsub is open to all eligible students regardless of race, sex, or other identity.
  • UW STEMsub students must attend either Chief Sealth, Cleveland, Foster, or Franklin High Schools in King County, WA.
  • UW STEMsub students apply during their sophomore or junior year and remain in the program through high school graduation.
  • To be eligible, UW STEMsub students must be low-income  (as defined by federal guidelines) and/or potential first generation college students. The regulations for Upward Bound Math Science programs require that two-thirds of the participants in a project must be both low-income and potential first-generation students. The remaining one-third must be either low-income or first-generation college students.
  • UW STEMsub students must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident of the United States.
  • UW STEMsub students must have a need for academic support in order to pursue successfully a program of education beyond high school.
  • Participants should not be currently enrolled in another Federal TRIO Upward Bound
